[Salesman] Didn’t know if it was for sale or not. I drive by there for work quite a bit and they look fun so just for kicks asked some questions. Not 30 seconds into the call I get the “so when can we get you in to take it for a spin?”
To which I should have responded “when can you expect to drop in a new clutch cause it’ll need it.”
Then some mentionings about Memorial Day sales, etc etc. So we’ll see.

or 0420/1500....

Go drive it. When I test drive cars, the sales people know I’m not serious, but they usually let me drive it and go.

If it’s 0001/1500, it’ll be a smart investment.

Looking at local Ford dealers site. They give a monthly lease rate on 3 cars that I would consider leasing. Chat opens and I respond with “what is the startup cost, including deposit and other fees?”
Response: Give me your name and phone number and I will find out and get back with you. Why don’t you stop in? What time is good for you today.
Me: You don’t need my personal info to get me those figures. Check with somebody and let me know now.
Response: Is this the best number to reach you?
Me: Yes, make sure you ask for me personally. Other people answer this phone. *Click*
Response: ???

I get why they do it, but it just comes off shady. The worst was when I requested info from a local real estate agent about a house. Put in a fake phone number and said don’t call me, only emails.
10 minutes later I get a phone call. Where they got my number I don’t know. So I said I’m with my family today and only will be communicating via email. “Well when can we get you in to look at some of the homes on the big screen?” “Why don’t you email me whatever homes you were going to show me and I’ll look at them on whatever screen I want?” *ignores everything I’ve said and goes over a script about why I should buy a house with them*
I hung up. Never got an email and have their phone number on a direct to voice mail. Every week I get a pre recorded voicemail message about why I should buy with them. I don’t give two shits about your great services because you haven’t shown me a single house to buy.
Which also brings me to the point of when dealers throw all of their “dealership incentives* at you to promote the sale. Free this, and free that, and blah blah blah. Keep all the free crap brand oil and translate that into reduction in cost. The worst I was told was “free WiFi at the service center lounge” I pulled out my phone and said there, now everyone in a 50 ft radius has free WiFi.
Great, I’m already feeling guarded and don’t want to ruin someone’s day, I know they’re just trying to do their job but I'm going to be blunt. I’ve already been screwed over once so I’m justifiably bitter.

I’ve been seeing more and more of these lately.

I was in sales for over 20 years. But I did not sell cars. Pressure sales is not what I am used to or good at.
One thing I noticed when at at several dealers, with a friend who was going to buy a new car, is that they all mimic each other. If one chews gum and wears a vest and wears their hair short and greased, they all do.

With all due respect, most dealerships track the in coming calls. Take a phone up, and don’t log every bit of information possible about the customer? Get scrutinized. Take a phone up and can’t schedule an appointment? You must be weak. Take too many phone ups, and can’t close any of them? Get out, we need a closer.
Long story short, there’s no such thing as an informational call anymore. The guy didn’t push for the rest drive because he’s doing his job, he’s just trying to stay employed.

My problem with him was that he pushed the test drive and hard sale let me get you in the doors 30 seconds into the call. there wasn’t even a what do you want to know about the car, what do you like about it - nope, just straight to trying to set the hook.
I did sales (not cars) for years and was much more passive about it. Ended up #16 in the region of 1000+ in my first year. People respond better to the soft approach. But as you said it is likely required by the dealership as per his employment

Don’t bother, its slow and yellow.
